Why Selena Gomez Doesn’t Want a First Dance With Benny Blanco at Their Wedding
Selena Gomez wants to dance with somebody at her wedding—just not her husband-to-be Benny Blanco.
The Only Murders in the Building star has a different plan in lieu of a traditional first dance when it comes to their nuptials. And there is another special man involved—but it’s not what you may think.
“I don’t think we’re looking at having one of those,” Selena, 32, said on the Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware podcast April 30, referring to the couple’s first dance. “’Cause they’re a little…”
Benny, 37, who proposed to Selena in December, interjected to finish his fiancée’s thought, adding, “She’s shy.”
Instead, Selena hopes that she can share a sweet moment with her maternal grandfather, who she affectionately calls Papa.
“I am looking to have a special dance with my papa,” the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place actress said of him, who is dad to her mom Mandy Teefey “He never got a chance to walk my mom down the aisle because, good for my mom, she decided to go to Vegas and was like, ‘Whooo’ and she’s still been with him [Brian Teefey] ever since she was 26.”
“So it’s very cute that they did that,” she continued. “But I wanted to give my grandfather the opportunity to have that.”
However, Selena isn’t off completely the hook with the moves on her wedding day as her fiancé’s Jewish heritage will call for a Hora, which is traditionally done with the bride and groom being lifted in the air in chairs by their wedding guests.
“I am very nervous about that,” the “Who Says” singer admitted. “I have to be honest, it looks so cute and adorable. But I was like, ‘What, I have to depend on something like this?’ I just gotta have a padding around.”
And though activities like dancing may be on the brain, the I Said I Love You First collaborators aren’t in a rush to lay out the full plans for their big day.
"We’re very much 'take it one day at a time'-type of people,” Benny told Rolling Stone in March. “We’re still not over this moment. Literally, while you were talking, she was sitting there staring at her ring."
