Selena Gomez Wants ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Co-Star Martin Short to Do This for Her on Her Wedding Day
As Selena Gomez plans her upcoming wedding to Benny Blanco, she has a wish atop her list—and it involves her Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short.
On the March 27 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Gomez said of Short that “Marty is due to give a speech. I told him he must.”
“I feel like Marty would have an epic speech,” she continued, adding that their fellow co-star Steve Martin would “probably pull out his banjo.”
Barrymore took the request one step further and suggested that Short and Martin officiate the ceremony, to which Gomez replied, “Oh my gosh! I hadn’t even thought about that.”
Per Page Six, Gomez and Blanco are taking their time planning their wedding after getting engaged in December and haven’t “figured anything out” yet. But, at least to some degree, Blanco has proven he is a planner, sharing on a recent episode of the On Purpose podcast with Jay Shetty that before falling in love with Gomez, he made a list of all the things he wanted in a future wife—with the help of his therapist.
“Before I met her, I was a guy in L.A. trying to find the one for me and I was having some trouble,” Blanco said. “I think I was maybe not looking in all the right places.”
“I was like, okay—it’s time to be a grown up, I want to start a life, I want to have a family, I want to find a person that is like my other half that makes me feel better and I make them feel better,” he added. “It’s a give and take, the perfect yin and yang, so I wrote down a list.”
The list included someone who was “age appropriate,” which to him was “30-plus.”
“The second thing I wrote was—I know this is so simple but so hard to come by—somebody who is kind, compassionate, and caring,” he continued. “I was like, ‘That’s really three-in-one, but I need someone who is nice. A genuine, nice person.’”
For her part, Gomez said of her future husband that “When Benny looks at me, I don’t think he sees anything but [what] I am, and that’s very rare to find. He knows when I’m feeling a certain way and before I could even let it get to a place where it’s unbearable, he has already talked me through a spiral.”
She continued while speaking to Shetty on the March 24 episode that “when you do know, it feels right,” adding, “I think that’s what happened to me.”
