Selena Gomez Weighs In on Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater Relationship Gossip

Selena Gomez won't let Ariana Grande be thrown to the wolves.

That's why the "Look at Her Now" singer had nothing but encouragement for the Wicked actress, who recently spoke out against gossip surrounding her and costar Ethan Slater's romance.

Not only did Ariana call out "disreputable evil tabloids" for fueling speculation around how her and Ethan's relationship actually began, but she also defended her boyfriend's character by telling Vanity Fair, "There couldn’t be a less accurate depiction of a human being than the one that the tabloids spread about him."

Responding to an Instagram post quoting Ariana, Selena wrote alongside five clapping emojis on Dec. 4, "AMEN."

Ariana, 31, and Ethan, 32, started dating in 2023 after meeting on the set of Wicked. Though they had already separated from their respective spouses Dalton Gomez and Lilly Jay—with whom Ethan shares a 2-year-old son—when they began their relationship, tabloids had a "field day," as Ariana put it, to "create something that paid their bills."

“The most disappointing part was to see so many people believe the worst version of it," the Nickelodeon alum told Vanity Fair. "That was definitely a tough ride.”

Looking back, Ariana said she went through "a lot of life changes" during the filming of Wicked.

“Honestly, it’s taken me a lot of hard work to be able to last this long and to heal certain parts of my relationship to fame and to what I do," she continued of the fallout from the rumors, "because of these tabloids that have been trying to destroy me since I was 19 years old."

The two-time Grammy winner continued, "But you know what? I'm 31 years old and I’m not a perfect person, but I am definitely deeply good, and I’m proud of who I’m becoming."

As for Ethan? Ariana believes "no one on this earth tries harder or spreads themselves thinner to be there for the people that he loves and cares about."

"There is no one on this earth with a better heart," she added, "and that is something that no bulls--t tabloid can rewrite in real life."
